A week-long gathering for traveling families to explore Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, and take advantage of the 9-Euro-Ticket which covers a month of all local train and bus transport within Germany.
Come join us in Freiburg im Breisgau, for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering August 24 – 31, 2022. Located in the middle of the Black Forest, Freiburg im Breisgau offers the perfect combination of sunshine, history, culture, museums, lakes, technology, nature events, cutting-edge architecture, and laidback old-town charm.
Our pop-ups provide a super casual, budget-friendly opportunity to gather, connect with other worldschoolers, share your insights, instill new friendships, learn about the local area, and immerse in a friendly, accepting mobile community.
We’ve cherry-picked the best low- or no-cost activities that highlight local nature, arts, history, food, and culture… but you’ll also have plenty of time to relax, get to know each other, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group’s interests (we provide plenty of supplemental ideas to tailor your experience).
Pop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you’d like. It’s up to you! We would love to have you come and simply connect with like-minded families while we dive in and explore the local offerings.
Our itinerary will include activities such as the following:
*Freiburger Münster (cathedral with gothic tower and former monastery)
*Seepark Freiburg with swimming, playground, boats, restaurant
*Freiburger Rieselfeld nature reservation and Mundenhof (zoo & aquarium, bird breeding sites, hiking)
*Local lakes with swimming, camping, boating, waterskiing, and diving courses
*Eight local museums including a planetarium
*Innovative Solar Park with informational tour
*Carolinengrube Sexau (land surrounded by water), best castle ruin in Baden-Württenberg
*Schauinsland silver mine museum
*Colorful local farmer’s market

LODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS:
Our activities will be centered in and around Freiburg im Breisgau (note there are are other areas of Germany called Freiburg), nearby towns, and a potential day trip to France. Staying directly in Freiburg is lovely, but other towns such as Emmendingen, Denzlingen, Kirchzarten, Schallstadt, Bad Krozingen, or Staufen are also acceptable and just a short train ride away. Freiburg offers hotels, apartments, hostels, and nearby camping options, details will be shared in the private Facebook group.
The host family will stay in Münstertal (a 30 minute drive or 50 minute train ride from Freiburg).

Germany is offering a summer special 9-Euro-Ticket which covers 1-month of transport on local trains and local buses (not including highspeed or long-distance transport). It can be purchased for the months of June, July, or August. Children ages 6+ all need their own €9 pass, children 0-5 travel free. MEET YOUR HOST:
Manuela and one of her children (age 9) will be hosting this event. Manuela’s family currently uses Germany as a home base but has also lived in other EU countries. They’ve recently traveled to Nicaragua and Bolivia and would love to spend more time in Asia. Manuela is drawn to Freiburg im Breisgau for its beautiful nature, lots of animals, clear water and fresh air, historical places, adventure parks, sport possibilities, and great food.
