Dominican Republic Adventure for Kids (4 Weeks)

septiembre 4 - septiembre 29

Come join us for an unforgettable learning adventure in Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic September 4- September 29, 2023 for an oasis of fun and community! This world schooling adventure is focused on learning about the island, making and tasting the local cuisine, as well as tons of obstacle courses, dancing, qi gong, breathwork, literacy and math within our children’s garden! Our children’s garden has a small homeschool like feel for world schoolers, digital nomads and traditional schoolers to join in and cultivate friendships while traveling. While there are academic activities taught, there is a strong focus on confidence building, attempts and trying, acceptance, bravery and using strong voices.

We certainly do spend plenty of time focused on the children’s activities, but there are lots of opportunities for parents to bond, hang out and meet up and activities that promote this! As parents, we aren’t just looking for our kids to meet others, but also building community that is empowering and likeminded.

Las Terrenas is an amazing small beach town two hours outside the history filled capital of Santo Domingo. Las Terrenas is filled with several vast beaches, some with great surfing waves and snorkeling adventures while others are so calm and serene for our littlest world schoolers. Visitors come here to enjoy the peaceful beaches, relax away from the hustle and bustle of city life, and to be amongst a very large international and expat community. Because the Dominican Republic does not require a visa and expats are allowed to stay as long as they would like (you just pay a small overstay fee at the airport when you leave), this area brings in a lot of long term families.

Our world schooling adventure garden is open Monday through Friday from 9am-1pm for the children.
The activities included in our adventure were chosen to highlight the area and support the local economy. Each week includes one of the activities below:

-Local Fruit market where children can practice Spanish and support local markets
-A coffee and cacao farm tour where we will see where they grow, grind and make the coffee as well as get to taste their amazing cacao and honey. Each child can choose to take home a container of honey, a brick of cacao or a bag of coffee. More items available for purchase.
-An in home cooking lesson with your family where our amazing teacher comes to teach you how to cook a local dish and everyone gets to help. She also goes over history of the island and how it came to be!
-Hike to the beautiful El Limon Waterfall with a local guide and Dominican lunch. Here you can swim and jump into the waterfall area! This hike is done with a group start to support a Women’s Empowerment Project here in Las Terrenas where the women are learning English to improve their businesses. One child and one adult included.
-Queso de Hoja cheese buying experience…a simple roadside stand with freshly made mozzarella type cheese. Supporting this local farmer while the children practice their buying skills in Spanish

*Add on options include:
Sunset horseback riding along the beach, surf lessons, snorkeling, massage and body work for the parents, cheese making on a farm class, private Spanish, French or Haitian Creole lessons (both for adults or children), National Park Los Haitises Mangroves and Caves tour, babysitting with our vetted teacher that has worked with us 2.5 years, cacao ceremony for families, Moms’ Night Out, Parents’ Night Out, Spa Day for Parents

This has served as a homeschool and world school learning pod for children ages 4-11 from almost 20 countries for the last 2 and a half years!!!!
Amanda is a New York State certified teacher with 19 years of experience in traditional schools. Her strengths and passion lie in literacy instruction and following the interests of the child when

Together, they are a dynamic team that focuses on play, learning, and building that community we all seek. They have years of experience running events and each one is sure to be unforgettable.
*Lodging and Neighborhoods*
