SUMMARY:Congreso de Familias Worldschoolers de habla hispana

SUMMARY:Bukhara & Samarkand\, Uzbekistan
DESCRIPTION:Come join us in Bukhara and Samarkand\, Uzbekistan for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering from May 17 – 23\, 2024. \nThe Worldschool Pop-Up Hub provides super casual\, budget-friendly opportunities to gather\, connect with other worldschoolers\, learn about the local area\, instill new friendships\, share your insights\, and immerse in a friendly\, accepting mobile community. Our activities highlight local nature\, history\, food\, and culture… but you’ll also have plenty of time to relax\, get to know each other\, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group’s interests. \nThis pop-up is a bit different than our standard event. Instead of staying in one destination for a week\, we’ll split our time between two different towns. This allows us to see more of this up-and-coming country. Uzbekistan was voted one of the top 2024 destinations by Lonely Planet and we can’t wait to explore with you and find everything this country has to offer! \nPop in for a few days or the full time. Join as many activities as you’d like. It’s up to you! \nOur itinerary will include activities such as the following: \n*Registan Square \n*Eternal City \n*Afrasiyab Settlement and Museum \n*Shopping at the Ancient Silk Road Trading Domes \n*Plazas\, Parks\, Palaces\, Tombs\, Mosques\, Mausoleums\, Museums\, Madrasahs (Islamic Schools)\, Bazaars…there’s so much these areas have to offer\, and we can’t wait to share it with you! \n  \nLODGING: \nWe’re on the move…you must secure all your own accommodations in these suggested areas. Join for as many days as you’re able. \n*Bukhara – stay May 17 – 20. Booking had the best selection for accommodations. Lyabi Khauz or Po-i-Kalyan are good areas and close to where most of our activities will take place\, but taxis are well priced and easy to get around from anywhere in the city. The host family is staying a few blocks south of Lyabi Khauz. \n*We’ll use May 20 as a travel day. Each family is responsible for getting from Bukhara to Samarkand. The host family plans on taking the train. They run them every couple of hours. \n*Samarkand – stay May 20 – 23. Lots of options for accommodations on Booking and AirBnB. The Registan Square is the main point in town and close to most things\, but again\, taxis are easy. The host family is staying near the Amir Timur monument. \nOngoing Plan: The host family will stay in Central Asia for the next couple of months. We’ll disclose our locations for those who want to stay longer in Central Asia and link two or more pop-ups together. \n  \nCOST per Family  \nUS$100 Early Bird Rate\, expires February 1\, 2024 \nUS$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need\, use code UZB2 at checkout) \n  \nMEET YOUR HOST: \nRachel & family sold everything in 2014 and never have looked back. We’ve been completely nomadic since 2018\, homeschooling our three children. Some of our favorite family travel destinations include Turkey\, Romania\, New Zealand\, Spain\, and London. Our two younger kids will join the Pop-Up and will be 14 and 17 years old. \nWe run the Worldschool Pop-Up Hub and love the people we get to meet from this venture. So far\, we’ve personally hosted or co-hosted more than 20 events and have attended a handful more. Can’t wait to invite you into our mobile communities. \n  \nNEED TO KNOW: \nFamilies are in charge of all their own transport and accommodations. SUMMARY:Tashkent & Khiva\, Uzbekistan
DESCRIPTION:Come join us in Uzbekistan for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering from May 7 – 13\, 2024. \nThe Worldschool Pop-Up Hub provides super casual\, budget-friendly opportunities to gather\, connect with other worldschoolers\, learn about the local area\, instill new friendships\, share your insights\, and immerse in a friendly\, accepting mobile community. Our activities highlight local nature\, history\, food\, and culture… but you’ll also have time to relax\, get to know each other\, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group’s interests. \nThis pop-up is a bit different than our standard event. Instead of staying in one destination for a week\, we’ll split our time between two different locales. This allows us to see more of this up-and-coming country. Uzbekistan was voted one of the top 2024 destinations by Lonely Planet and we can’t wait to explore all the gems this country has to offer! \nPop in for a few days or the full time. Join as many activities as you’d like. It’s up to you! \nOur itinerary will include activities such as the following: \n*First UNESCO World Heritage Village \n*Magic City Park \n*Shopping at Local Bazaars \n*Museums of All Types (History of Uzbekistan\, Temurids\, Amir Timur\, Applied Arts\, Victims of Repression\, etc.) \n*Kuhna Ark Fortress and Museum \n*Tash Khauli and Isfandiyar Palaces \n*Local Parks \n*Juma Wooden Mosque \n  \nLODGING: \nWe’re on the move…you must secure all your own accommodations in these suggested areas. Join for as many days as you’re able. \n*Tashkent – stay May 7 – 10/11. There are plenty of rentals in town via the typical search engines (AirBNB\, Booking\, etc). It’s recommended to stay close to Amir Timur Square\, as it’s a pretty central location\, but taxis are well-priced and easy to get throughout the town. \n*We’ll use May 11 as a travel day to get to/settle into Khiva. Families are responsible for getting themselves from Tashkent to Khiva. The host family plans on taking the direct\, overnight train departing the evening of May 10th (also a daytime option on May 11th). Details will be shared in the private Facebook Group. \n*Khiva – stay May 11-13. The first ever UNESCO World Heritage Village and one of the most intact silk road cities. It’s a little out of the way\, so overlooked by many tourists\, but still has tons to offer. We suggest staying near the Ota Gate. Booking has many hotel options\, including some converted Islamic schools. The host family is staying at Khiva Hostel. \nOngoing Plan: The host family will stay in Central Asia for the next couple of months. We’ll disclose our locations for those who want to stay longer in Central Asia and link two or more pop-ups together. \n  \nCOST per Family  \nUS$100 Early Bird Rate\, expires January 15\, 2024 \nUS$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need\, use code UZB1 at checkout) \n  \nMEET YOUR HOST: \nRachel & family sold everything in 2014 and never have looked back. We will provide advice on where to stay\, which trains to book\, etc. within the Facebook group. We will also have sequel pop-ups following our travel path through Central Asia. \nIt’s recommended to download the «Yandex» app (Uzbek version of Uber or Grab). It’s easy to use and cheaper than taxis\, plus the bonus feature of upfront pricing. \n  \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, meet the host\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/uzbekistanpopups2024 \nNote; We will use the same group for the two Uzbeckistan Pop-Ups: Tashkent-Khiva  &  Bukhara-Samarkand. We expect many families who are interested in one event\, likely will be interested in the other as well. \nBrowse our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about how our pop-ups work: \nhttps://www.worldschoolpopuphub.com/faqs

We have a pretty laid-back attitude with travel… sometimes we have a robust plan and other times we don’t. We love to be spontaneous from time to time which has given us lots of unexpected adventures and allowed us to meet and make friends across the globe. It’s these connections that we love most about our worldschooling lifestyle\, there is absolutely nothing better that meeting up with people we’ve met in different locations across the world again and again… which is why we love the pop-up hubs so much as they offer such a great opportunity to do this. \nHost #2 is Sharla\, traveling with her husband and 2 teen boys\, aged 14 and 18. \nSharla and the rest of the Crabtree Family have been traveling together as a family part- or full-time since 2015. Our family of 4\, with 2 teens (14 and 18) has travelled together around the US\, all over Europe\, Morocco\, Central America\, Thailand\, and are super excited to explore more of Southeast Asia this coming year. Our first pop-up was in London in 2022 and we loved it so much\, we’ve since been to one in Madison\, Wisconsin and another in Kuala Lumpur. We are planning on Penang and Siem Reap\, as well! We will be spending a month in Da Nang prior to the pop-up with other worldschool families\, getting to know the area and planning a great itinerary. \n  \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nDa Nang has many great areas and neighborhoods to explore\, from My Khe Beach right on the city’s beautiful coastline to the bustling Da Nang City Center and Dragon Bridge. The city is divided in half by the Han River\, offering a cityside and beachside. The host families are staying between My Khe Beach and the Han River in the An Thuong area. \nThe Da Nang City Centre\, along the Han River waterfront\, is great if you want to be close to everything and enjoy the local life. This area is centrally located and offers easy access to many of the city’s attractions and eateries. \nIf you prefer to stay closer to the beach\, My Khe Beach is located at the city’s northern end and offers stunning views of the sea and the Son Tra peninsula. This area also has plenty of restaurants\, cafes\, and shops. \nThe An Thuong area offers a great position between the beach and the city centre. An Thuong’s streets are lined with an array of eateries\, boutique stores\, and local markets. \nIf you would like to stay a little further outside the hustle and bustle of the city\, Son Tra Peninsula\, often called the «Green Oasis» of Da Nang\, boasts lush greenery\, meandering roads\, panoramic views of the South China Sea\, and secluded beaches. Car rides into the city will take ~20 minutes. \nLuckily\, no matter where you choose to stay in Da Nang city\, nothing is far away. At most\, it’ll be a 15-minute drive from one corner of the city to the other. The airport is only a 10-min drive from the city center. \n  \nTRANSPORT CONSIDERATIONS: \nDa Nang has an efficient public bus system with routes that are clearly labelled in English at each stop and fares that are very cheap. (VND 7\,000-15\,000 per ride) Other handy transport options include: \n\nMetered taxis – Best way to get from point A to B. Ensure drivers use the meter to avoid arguing over fares.\nMotorbike taxis – Popular for shorter trips where buses don’t go. Negotiate the fare before setting off.\nBicycle & motorbike rental – Ideal for exploring beaches and neighbourhoods at your own pace. Rent from hotels or agencies along main streets.\nGrab car & Grab bike – Southeast Asia’s top ride-hailing app offers everything from cars to motorbikes. Download the app and input your destination for door-to-door convenience.\n\n  \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, meet the host\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/danangpopup2024

Hi\, I’m Christy\, and we live in Siem Reap. I’m a college counselor and my Cambodian husband grew up in this area and is a local tour guide. I have also worked as tour leader in Southeast Asia for many years. We love hosting and showing off our amazing slice of the world. In fact\, we actually came to learn about worldschooling from several families who’ve stayed at our B&B. \nWe know everything to do here and can provide all sorts of advice for your stay. We’re always organizing events and trips with guests and friends and have a lot of experience in creating memorable\, fun\, and affordable activities! Our family is also really excited to get out and do way more travelling now that the world has opened up again. \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nSiem Reap is a small town near Angkor Wat. Everything is quite accessible from town and the town is generally safe for families (as always please read reviews and exercise common sense). \nYour hosts live in Wat Svay\, Siem Reap\, which is along the river 2 km south of the town center. They run a smalll B&B with 6 private bungalows (including kitchen) and also recommend another family-run hotel 250 meters away with a pool the group can use! For those interested in staying near the host family\, you’ll find links to these accommodation options in the Facebook group mentioned below. \nTRANSPORT CONSIDERATIONS: \nGetting into town is very easy: walking along the river\, using ride apps or tuktuk drivers for as little as $1/trip\, or by hired bicycle. They also have some very friendly dogs around\, too. \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, meet the host\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/siemreappopup2024

SUMMARY:Osaka\, Japan
DESCRIPTION:Explore Osaka\, Japan during cherry blossom season! We have a fun-filled and community-centered worldschool gathering March 30 – April 5\, 2024. \nOur pop-ups provide a super casual\, budget-friendly opportunity to gather\, connect with other worldschoolers\, learn about the local area\, instill new friendships\, share your insights\, and immerse in a friendly\, accepting mobile community. \nWe’ve cherry-picked the best low- or no-cost activities that highlight local nature\, arts\, history\, food\, and culture… but you’ll also have plenty of time to relax\, get to know each other\, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group’s interests (we provide supplemental ideas to tailor your experience). \nPop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you’d like. It’s up to you! We would love to have you come and simply hang out with like-minded families while we dive in and explore the local offerings. \nOur itinerary will include activities such as the following: \n*Osaka Walking Tour \n*Osaka Castle \n*Tennoji Park & Zoo \n*Ooedo Minoh traditional onsen baths and waterfall hike \n*Todaiji Daibutsuden historic Buddhist temple \n*Tsutenkaku Tower observation deck \n*Street food & markets \n*Tempozan’s 112 meter tall Ferris wheel \n*Big Bang Sakai Children’s Museum and 53m Jungle Gym \n*Osaka Science Museum \nAdd on options include Bampaku Beast amusement park\, World Fair Park\, Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan\, Lego Land\, or a day trip to Hiroshima or Kyoto! \nCOST per Family \nUS$100 Early Bird Rate\, expires January 15\, 2024 \nUS$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need\, use code OSAKA25 at checkout) \nMEET YOUR HOST: \nI’m Tara\, and I’m traveling with my family of four with two kids (son will be 13 and daughter is 11).  My husband and I early retired in 2021\, and we moved from Houston to Spain where we’ve spent the last two years until the end of June 2023. \nMy husband worked in accounting while I was an art educator for the previous 11 years (experience from PreK age through to Seniors in HS). Prior to the classroom\, I worked in museum education and advertising. My passions\, interests\, and experience made the leap to worldschooling right up my alley! One of my favorite places in the world (so far) is NYC. I may be biased since I spent most of my 20s in NYC. I love big cities\, but I also love getting out of my comfort zone and experiencing new things (including smaller places like Granada). \nAfter two years of full immersion in Granada\, Spain\, we are now full-time nomadic travelers / worldschoolers. We currently plan to slow travel for two years and then apply for Spanish visas again (which would put our oldest at ESO 3 age or US High School age). But who knows how our plans may evolve as we travel full-time? \nWe are spending March and April in Japan (with 6 weeks in Osaka).  We chose Osaka because of Cherry Blossom Season\, endless attractions and activities\, and it also offers easy access to Kyoto.  One of my favorite things to do is guide my family through unique adventures and opportunities (and big cities are my jam)… I would love to share this with other families.  We hosted our first Worldschool Pop-Up in Budapest in November 2023\, and we had a blast.  We hope to meet you in Osaka at the end of March / early April 2024. \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nOsaka is a large but safe city. If you use your common sense there are no truly dangerous areas to avoid. However\, our activities are grouped by areas accessible via public transport. \nOur host recommends the following three neighborhoods serviced by the Midosuji subway line: \n(1) Kita Ward (North 北): Around Osaka and Umeda stations. \n(2) Minami (South 南): Around Namba Station. \n(3) Tennoji/Abeno: Around Tennoji and Abeno stations. These are centralized neighborhoods with good transportation access. \nThe host has a rental near Yodogawa Ward. \nTRANSPORT CONSIDERATIONS: \nTransport info here: https://www.osaka.com/info/osaka-metro/ \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, meet the host\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/osakapopup2024

SUMMARY:Suva\, Fiji
DESCRIPTION:Come join us in Suva\, Fiji\, for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering March 23 – 29\, 2024. \nPop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you’d like. It’s up to you! \nOur itinerary will include activities such as the following: \n*Colo-I-Suva Forest Park & Waterfalls\n*Olympic Pool\n*My Suva Park\n*Fiji Museum\n*Damodar City\n*Pacific Harbour Beaches\n*Local Markets\n*Lovo Dinner with Local Family\n*Damodar Aquatic Centre\n*Ice Cream and City Stroll \nAdd-ons include Pacific Harbour Cultural Centre and watching a Rugby Game. \n  \nCOST per Family \nUS$100 Early Bird Rate\, expires November 1\, 2023 \nUS$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need\, use code SUVA25 at checkout) \n  \nMEET YOUR HOST: \nWe are a family of five. Laitia is from Fiji and Amanda is from Wisconsin\, USA. Laitia and Amanda met while living and working in Kuwait. Our children are ages 10\, 9\, and 6. We spend most of our time in Wisconsin with Amanda’s family\, helping run the family septic business. We travel to Fiji as often as we can and lived there for about a year when our oldest children were toddlers. We haven’t made the move to full time worldschooling but travel as often as possible. Thus far our travels with the kids have mainly centered around the USA\, the Caribbean\, and Fiji. \nAmanda is a former teacher who left the classroom about five years ago to homeschool the children and in hopes of having more flexibility to travel. We are excited to share Laitia’s home with you and connect with other like-minded families! \n  \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nSuva City is located on a penninsula that extends out from the Southeastern coast of Viti Levu\, the big island in Fiji. Suva is accessed by flying into Nadi International Airport. From Nadi there are many options to get to Suva with a scenic 3.5-4 hour drive including taxis\, mini buses\, coach buses\, private transfers\, shared transfers\, or rental car. It is also possible to fly from Nadi to Nausori Airport. From Nausori the drive into Suva is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. \nSuva is a relatively small city. Many of our activities will be within walking distance of Suva City Center\, several activities are planned around the Albert Park vicinity. There will be a couple of days that either a taxi or rental car will be required to access our locations\, but most days walking and the bus system are sufficient. There are many places to eat all around Suva and the surrounding area. \nThe host family will be staying in Kinoya with their local family. Kinoya lies northeast of Suva City. This is not an area with much lodging\, though it may be possible to find an Airbnb or similar in nearby Laucala Beach where International School Suva is housed. Neither Kinoya nor Laucala Beach will be nearly as convenient as Suva City Center for accessing our activities. \nParticipants should exercise caution and awareness as they would in any large city. Poverty is high in Fiji and there is a large homeless population in Suva. The seaside should be avoided at night as well as clubs and poorly lit streets. Pickpocketing is somewhat of an issue in Suva City. \n  \nTRANSPORT CONSIDERATIONS: \nPublic transport is abundant in the Suva area. There is a large taxi network as well as an established bus system. Taxis are metered so be sure your driver is using the meter unless you have made a prior agreement with the driver. If you have transport questions\, please ask in the Facebook group below\, we’re happy to help! \n  \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, meet the host\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/suvapopup2024 \nBrowse our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about how our pop-ups work: \nhttps://www.worldschoolpopuphub.com/faqs

We learn as we wander and are always interested in unique & authentic cultural experiences. We have traveled to more than 75 countries since the kids were born\, and we are always excited about finding new places we love\, as well as returning to favorites. \nI’ll be honest here — we aren’t so into roughing it\, and we all enjoy a fun swimming pool and delicious breakfast buffet! We went to Yogyakarta in winter of 2023 and absolutely loved this hotel and surrounding area. The kids have been begging to go back ever since\, so we thought — why not bring along friends?!? \n  \nSTRUCTURE for the WEEK: \nEach day we will plan a half-day outing\, departing the resort at about 9:30-10:00am. We’ll return to the resort around 2:00-3:00pm each day to allow plenty of time to enjoy the facilities during the steamy afternoons. Some daily outings may be shorter\, the visit to Borobudor Temple will be longer. \n  \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nThe majority of the activities will be held in Northern Yogyakarta. The host family will be staying at the Hyatt Regency Resort which will be a centralized location for our activities. \nThe Hyatt Regency Resort property is spectacular with landscaped gardens\, pavilions\, terraced goldfish ponds\, and the most fabulous pools! The series of pools has a large temple in the center with a big (adult-friendly!) waterslide. There is a jungle pool under the trees\, complete with a Tarzan swing off the “cliff”\, and there is an activity area with a balance battle station and water basketball. You’ll also find some resident guinea pigs to feed\, Indonesian games\, and older children can rent electric scooters to explore the grounds. You can see a complete list of resort activities here. \nOur family went to the hotel in February of 2023 and absolutely loved every minute. It is one of the places my kids have asked to return. If you have been to Bali\, you’ll find Yogyakarta completely different. It’s still that gorgeous green of Bali\, but a lot more authentic\, and lot less (foreign) touristed. It’s a fantastic value! \nAs world travelers who frequent resorts\, we think this is one of the most wonderful and best value resorts we have been to around the world. The breakfast is out of this world! With endless local dishes\, make your own noodle soup buffet station\, all the sweet things\, fresh juices and fruits\, and wonderful salads. It’s a dream\, and you won’t want to miss it. \nGood to know: There are rooms at this hotel that come with Club Lounge Access\, which includes breakfast and also an evening two-hour service with unlimited alcoholic beverages and “snacks”\, which we find are enough for a light dinner for our family. It’s a relaxed but somewhat formal environment\, you’ll want to wear something a little nicer than pool clothes and flip-flops. \nHyatt Regency Resort Rooms: The rooms in the hotel are clean\, air-conditioned\, have a private bathroom\, and have 2 twins or 1 king bed\, plus a simple chair and desk. The hotel can arrange for an additional rollaway bed for a charge and can accommodate families in adjoining rooms as well. \nRoom Configuration and Number of People Accommodated: \n\nBase Room =  2 adults (ages 12+) plus 1 child under the age of 12 — OR  — 1 adult with 2 children (under 12)\nBase Room + Rollaway Bed = 3 adults (ages 12+) — OR — 2 adults (ages 12+) with 2 children (under 12)\nEither room can add the breakfast and happy hour food service by selecting the «Club Lounge Access» option\nNote: The hotel is firm on ages\, all guests 12 years and older are considered adults. If you have a 4-person family and all members are 12 and older\, you will need two rooms. Adjoining rooms are available.\nIf we have enough interested participants\, and our group requires 10+ rooms\, we will do what we can to receive group rates.\nHyatt Points: This is one of the best deals around for those with Hyatt Points! One week at the Resort equates to a single night of regular Hyatt accommodation.\n\nRestaurants: There are many restaurants nearby\, and eating out is extremely inexpensive (especially outside of the resort). We enjoyed a few vegan Javanese cafes when we were there\, which were wonderful\, and about US$2 or so per person. \nWe recommend staying at the resort if possible or an area in the north of the city. For those staying off-site\, a day pass is available for the days your family wishes to join in the resort activities. At time of publication\, passes cost ~US$7/day for a child (ages 0 -11)\, and ~US$14/day for adults (ages 12+). \nAll questions you have about the resort can be directed to Bevin\, you’ll find her in the Facebook group listed below. \n  \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, meet the host\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/yogyakartapopup2024 \nBrowse our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about how our pop-ups work: \nhttps://www.worldschoolpopuphub.com/faqs

The volunteer stay will be arranged separately from the pop-up and our hosts will share all necessary information including rates & amenities\, expectations\, timelines\, etc\, within the Facebook Group listed below. More information will be added as we solidify the details\, this opportunity will be limited to 5-7 families depending on the size of families who sign up. \nCOST per Family \nThis event is limited to 12 families\nUS$100 Early Bird Rate\, expires December 1\, 2023\nUS$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need use KhaoSok25 at checkout) \nMEET YOUR HOST: \nThis pop-up will be hosted by Tanja & Chris: We are a family of four and are advocates of self-directed education. Our crew consists of two amazing girls\, aged 8 and 12\, who inspire us daily with their boundless curiosity and zest for discovery. Our desire for unique educational experiences led us to Costa Rica\, Africa\, and most recently Ibiza\, Spain\, where we resided for two transformative years. During our time there\, the adults were staff members\, and our girls were students at a democratic school. It felt very rewarding to be an instrumental part in launching a self-directed style school on the island. \nWe have never called ourselves Worldschoolers\, yet here we are. Our passion for exploration\, community building\, and permaculture has taken us on exciting adventures across the globe. We thrive on uncovering obscure gems in our travels and cherish opportunities to help build communities. While we’re currently situated in the United States\, our next chapter awaits in Thailand\, where we’ll be volunteering on a permaculture farm near the Khao Sok National Park. We hope to cultivate a sense of community with both people/families and the planet. Join us on this journey of growth\, learning\, and adventure. The world is our classroom\, and you’re invited to be part of our remarkable story! \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS:\nThis region of Khao Sok is what remains of the oldest tropical evergreen rain forest in the world\, a 160-million-year-old ecosystem. Khao Sok National Park is known for its clear waters and signature fern-covered limestone cliffs that shoot straight up into the air like crocodile teeth. We will be surrounded by nature and all of its beauty! The pop-up activities will be centered near the Khao Sok National Park Headquarters where there is a wide range of lodging possibilities and tourist facilities. Google pin: https://maps.app.goo.gl/GYFJ7mE1M1ds9WyS8 \nOnce the pop-up concludes\, families are invited to join a 3 – 4 week hands-on volunteering opportunity with Chris & Tanja’s family at Gaarawé Village. The opportunity is arranged directly with the hosts in conjunction with the permaculture farm. Gaarawé Villages nominal rates include lodging\, three daily meals\, and other amenities such as laundry facilities and high speed internet. The farm is in the Phanom District in the southwest of Surat Thani province of southern Thailand\, not far from Khao Sok National Park. When not volunteering at the permaculture farm there are opportunities to hike\, swim\, paddle\, soak\, and explore a less beaten path in this more remote area of Thailand. There will be a limit to the number of families who can be accommodated within this volunteer opportunity. More info to be shared soon\, please check the Facebook group listed below. \nTRANSPORT CONSIDERATIONS:\nThe national park is a touristed area on a main east – west throughway. Local buses\, minivans and taxis can take you from Phuket\, Surat Thani\, or Krabi to the National Park headquarters (2-3 hours one-way). Additionally\, Grab (an app that works like Uber) is used in the area. Some families may opt to rent a car or scooters\, though many will plan to use public transport. \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION:\nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, meet the host\, and interact with other potential attendees:\nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/khaosokpopup2024 \nLearn more about the permaculture farm experience here: Gaarawé Village Volunteer Opportunity

SUMMARY:Yakumo\, Hokkaido\, Japan
DESCRIPTION:Come join us in Yakumo\, for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschool gathering February 6-12\, 2024. \nPop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you’d like. It’s up to you! \nOur itinerary will include activities such as the following: \n*Yakumo’s SAMUIBEYA Winter Festival\n*Skiing & Snowboarding\n*Pecolela Campground (for Igloo-Making and other Winter Activities)\n*Mochi Making\n*Snowshoeing\n*Yakumocho Kiborikuma Museum\n*Yakumo Shrine\n*Community Dinners and Game Nights\n*Japanese Crafts – Origami\, Shuji\, etc… \nCOST per Family (Limited to 10 Families)\nUS$100 Early Bird Rate\, expires November 15\, 2023\nUS$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need\, use code YAKUMO25 at checkout) \nMEET YOUR HOST:\nKenichiro\, Awilda\, and Ricardo (11 y/o) will be your hosts in Yakumo\, Hokkaido Japan. My spouse and I chose to retire early and began traveling fulltime with Ricardo in 2020 as house and pet sitters in Spain and around the US. In 2021 we lived in Latin America as part of the Traveling Circus. In 2023 we traveled through Southeast Asia and Japan\, hosted a pop up in Osaka and attended one in Siem Reap. \nSo why Yakumo of all the places? It is located between Sapporo and Hokodate and is accessible by train and bus. In February 2023\, our family had the opportunity to volunteer and spend two weeks in this town. We met an individual who was trying to transform this town into a hub of creativity for young people in Japan as well as revitalize the economy of the region. Yakumo is not a typical tourist destination but while we were there\, we experienced activities including skiing\, snowboarding\, snowshoeing\, mochi making\, winter festival with snowmobiles and banana boats\, igloo making\, etc. We volunteered with an organization providing jobs for persons with disabilities. I feel that this pop-up will introduce families to a typical small town in northern Japan. There are plenty of nature activities and opportunities to interact with the local community. \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS:\nOur activities will take place in Yakumo town\, centered around Guest House Sento. Yakumo town has limited accommodation\, and the host family recommends staying with them at the small inn (Sento). There are some other hotels and guesthouses available within walking distance of Sento. Sento also has a restaurant attached and will serve as a central location and meeting point for many of the activities (ie game night\, community dinner). \nTRANSPORT CONSIDERATIONS:\nThere is a JR Yakumo train station inside the town. Public transportation is limited within and around the town and we will have to arrange transportation via van through our local contact to get to the sites outside the town\, like skiing and snowshoeing. The furthest location is about 30-minutes by car and 1-hour by public transportation. \nSKI / SNOWBOARD COSTS:\nPricing for skiing and snowboarding is less than half the cost of the more popular Japanese sites\, like Niseko.  Expect to pay around US$23 for the rentals and US$10-20 for lift tickets. \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION:\nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, meet the host\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/yakumopopup2024

SUMMARY:Penang\, Malaysia
DESCRIPTION:Come join us in Penang\, Malaysia for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering January 28 – February 3\, 2024. Chinese New Year is celebrated on Feb 10\, 2024\, and we hope to catch the beginnings of this festive season in Penang. \nPop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you’d like. It’s up to you! \nOur itinerary will include activities such as the following: \n*Georgetown UNESCO World Heritage Zone + it’s iconic murals\n*Clan Jetties\n*Entopia Butterfly Farm\n*Penang Hill\n*Taman Bandaraya Youth Park\n*Eat at a Hawker Centre\n*Kek Lok Si Temple\n*New World Park\n*Hin Market\n*Balik Pulau – Saanen Dairy Goat Farm\n*Sunset at Pantai Malindo\n*Beach Day\n*Friendship Park «I Love Penang» Sign Photo-Op \nAdd-ons include the Snake Temple\, Floating Mosque\, Penang National Park\, and The Habitat on Penang Hill. \n  \nCOST per Family \nUS$100 Early Bird Rate\, expires October 15\, 2023 \nUS$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need\, use code PENANG25 at checkout) \nMEET YOUR HOST: \nRachel & family sold everything in 2014 and never have looked back. They’ve been completely nomadic since 2018\, homeschooling their three children. Some of their favorite family travel destinations include Turkey\, Romania\, New Zealand\, Spain\, and London. Their two younger kids will join the Penang Pop-Up and will be 14 and 16 years old. \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nGeorgetown & Tanjung Tokong will be the most centralized locations for our activities\, however there are many neighborhoods to choose from. Here are a few to consider: \n\nGeorgetown – The historic center and capital of the island… and is the UNESCO World Heritage Zone. Housing will typically be in old\, unique shop houses although many units are renovated and modern on the inside.\nTanjung Tokong and Straits Quay – North of Georgetown\, a much more modern-looking area with many skyscrapers. The host family will be staying here.\nBatu Ferringhi – The popular beaches area and expat haven (although expats will be found in all these neighborhoods)\n*Note\, if you choose to stay longer to experience Lunar New Year\, traffic everywhere will be quite bad for the holidays\, but perhaps most especially along this entire northern stretch of the island\, from Georgetown to Batu Ferringhi.\nAir Itam – A decidedly more local neighborhood\, despite being home to many tourist attractions in Penang Hill and the Kek Lok Si Temple.\n\n  \nTRANSPORT CONSIDERATIONS: \nGrab will almost always be the best option\, so be sure to download the app (basically Southeast Asia’s version of Uber). Unfortunately\, traffic will likely be awful for the entire week. This is the downside to being in a popular destination during the biggest holiday of the year. However\, we will plan a logistically efficient itinerary\, grouping activities by proximity. \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, meet the host\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/penangpopup2024 \nBrowse our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about how our pop-ups work: \nhttps://www.worldschoolpopuphub.com/faqs

She moved to San Diego at 19 years old and has been in love with this city ever since. She’s super familiar with the area and knows lots of amazing\, off the beaten path places to share with other worldschoolers. A little more about her: \nWho Am I? I am a woman\, a wife\, a mother (to a 3-year-old)\, a business owner\, and so much more in between. Professionally\, I have been a real estate broker. On the side\, I’ve been leading women’s self-empowerment events for over a decade in the San Diego area\, such as transformational women’s book clubs\, mega networking events for businesswomen\, self-love creative events\, accountability groups\, etc. I have also always loved to travel and once my husband and I met\, I passed on the bug to him! \nThe reason we are doing this\, even though we have fun traveling as a family\, is because we ARE BETTER TOGETHER in a community. Creating the community circles we need\, where we can share\, and where our kids can play\, learn\, and connect… it’s all we need to THRIVE. \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nSan Diego is a large\, sprawling city. To be centrally located for our pop-up\, it’s recommended to stay in the downtown San Diego neighborhoods (Downtown\, Gaslamp\, Little Italy\, and Balboa Park areas with North Park and South Park a little farther away from our main activities). Mission Valley and Old Town areas are also excellent choices to be close to the action. As with any large city\, read reviews to find safe areas for your family to stay. Try to avoid staying in East San Diego if possible. \nFor those coming in RVs and campers (or looking for cabins)\, San Diego Metro KOA Resort gets great reviews and is close to the downtown area.  Admiral Baker RV Campground (only for those with military service background) also has good reviews and is close to the action. Campland on the Bay is a bit farther to the north\, it also has a marina for boating families. \nTRANSPORT CONSIDERATIONS: \nTrolley lines are available in downtown San Diego. Unfortunately\, they don’t go everywhere we’ll be visiting. Renting a car is preferable\, otherwise Ubers or taxis can fill in as necessary. \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, meet the host\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/sandiegopopup2024/

It’s up to you! \nOur itinerary will include activities such as the following: \n*Hike in Taman Tugu\n*National Science Centre\n*Perdana Botanical Gardens\n*Petronas Twin Towers\n*National Monument \n*Exploring a Malaysian Food Courts\n*KL history walk\n*Islamic Arts Museum\n*Central Market\n*Hike with a Local & Learn Jungle Survival Skills in the Gombak Forest\n*Homeschool Picnic (to meet local homeschoolers)\n*Homeschool Fun Fair\n*Aquaria\n*Sunway Lagoon \nAdd-ons include: stops at Sultan Abdul Samad Building\, Muzium Negara\, Sri Mahamariamman Temple\, Thean Hou Temple\, \nMasjid Negara\, Istana Budaya\, Masjid Jamek\, Escape PJ\, Putra World Trade Centre\, Dataran Merdeka\, KL Tower\, and a trip to Batu Caves! \nCOST per Family \nUS$100 Early Bird Rate\, expires October 1\, 2023 \nUS$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need\, use code KL25 at checkout) \n  \nMEET YOUR HOSTS: \nChong See Ming\, her husband Sim\, and her son Max (16)\, are an unschooling family based in Kuala Lumpur. Amongst her family’s many varied interests are rock climbing\, music\, art\, gardens\, flea markets\, natural history\, and stand-up comedy. Her family has been to the Merida Pop-Up & both the Guanajuato Pop-Ups in 2022\, plus Penang\, Normandy\, and Seoul Pop-Ups in 2023! \nRachel & family sold everything in 2014 and never have looked back. They’ve been completely nomadic since 2018\, homeschooling their three children while they travel the globe. Some of their favorite family travel destinations include Turkey\, Romania\, New Zealand\, Spain\, and London. Two of their three teens will join the Kuala Lumpur Pop-Up and will be 14 and 16 years old at the time. This will be their first trip to Malaysia and they’re super excited to reunite with See Ming & family (our 6th pop-up together!). \n  \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nMany of our activities will take place in Kuala Lumpur City Centre / Chinatown areas\, most will be between Perdana Botanical Gardens in the west and Petronas Towers in the east. There are a few options for convenient areas for accommodation: \n\nBukit Bintang is a popular\, central area to stay. Lots of restaurants\, shops\, malls\, nightlife\, and food stalls. Evenings and weekends can be busy & noisy.\nKuala Lumpur City Center\, or KLCC for short\, is next to Bukit Bintang\, where you find the famous and spectacular Petronas Towers\, the world’s tallest twin towers.\nKL Sentral area is convenient to stay in as it is home to KL Sentral Train Station and the city’s many forms of transportation including the MRT lines\, LRT trains\, monorail\, and the airport Klia Express train. You can easily access any part of the city or surrounding area.\nChinatown & Merdeka Square is the home to many renovations. Broad streets\, walking areas\, and murals make this an inviting area. Many of the formerly\, worn-down shophouses have been renovated into beautiful\, trendy cafes\, bakeries\, restaurants\, bars\, bookstores\, art galleries\, and coffee shops. NOTE: There are some not-so-nice hostels in this area aimed at budget backpackers\, read reviews if you stay at a low budget option.\nBangsar South has recently become a center for trendy restaurants\, cafes and shops. The two LRT rail stations (Universiti & Kenrinchi) make this a great base. The trip to KL Sentral station takes roughly 10 minutes. NOTE: This is a bit further out of the main area and there are not any sights nearby. You’ll need to train\, taxi\, or Grab to the city center.\n\nOne co-host family will be staying in the Robertson Building in the KLCC area (there are additional rental units available in this complex)\, the other host in Desa Park City. \n  \nTRANSPORT CONSIDERATIONS: \nKuala Lumpur has MRT lines\, LRT lines\, a monorail\, taxis\, and Grab (the Asian version of Uber). \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, meet the host\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/kualalumpurpopup2024/ \nBrowse our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about how our pop-ups work: \nhttps://www.worldschoolpopuphub.com/faqs

SUMMARY:Lisbon\, Portugal
DESCRIPTION:Come join us in Lisbon\, Portugal\, for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering December 29\, 2023 – January 4\, 2024. \nPop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you’d like. It’s up to you! \nNote: During this event\, we will also be exploring the area around Lisbon. Please expect 3-4 short day trips to give our families an opportunity to see the neatest places this part of the world offers! \nOur itinerary will include activities such as the following: \n*Wonderland Lisboa Christmas Market\n*Parque Marechal Carmona in Cascais\n*Parque da Liberdade in Sintra\n*Sintra National Palace\n*Quinta da Regaleira\n*Cascais Christmas Village\n*Belem Tower and the world map\n*Azulejos Museum of Portuguese Tile\n*Obidos Medieval Town \nAdd-ons include Lisboa Oceanarium and many beautiful beaches between Lisboa and Cascais. \n  \nCOST per Family \nUS$100 Early Bird Rate\, expires October 1\, 2023 \nUS$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need\, use code LISBON25 at checkout) \nMEET YOUR HOST: \nWe’re the Shepston Overlys; full-time we’re made up of four humans and a dog; part-time we have some very adorable foster kittens. The humans in the family are Megan\, Tim\, Simon\, age 13\, and Millie\, age 9. We are new residents of Portugal\, currently based in Cascais\, and working on the somewhat challenging language. \nWe started traveling in 2021. For the moment\, we are enjoying Europe and the United States\, and in the next couple of years we hope to be able to travel to Asia and New Zealand. \nWe are excited to welcome your family to the Lisbon area\, as we (at least the adults in our family) love Portugal. We find it relaxing and calm–everything moves slower here than in the United States–while also engaging. The Lisbon area has interesting museums\, beautiful parks\, breathtaking beaches and cliff-side hikes\, rich history\, and so many wonderful people. \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nMost activities are based in Lisbon\, but we will take three to four day trips to surrounding towns. I would recommend staying between Lisbon and Cascais. Some great family areas just outside of Lisbon are Cascais\, Estoril\, Parede\, and Paco d’Arcos. In Lisbon proper\, Campo d’Ourique and Restelo are popular and safe neighborhoods. The host family will be staying in Cascais\, about a fifteen minute walk northwest of the train station and just north of Parque Marechal Carmona. \nThe area out on the coast\, called Colares\, is difficult to get around without a car. I also would not recommend staying in Sintra\, as it can be overwhelmed with tourists. \nTRANSPORT CONSIDERATIONS: \nThe Lisbon area is well-connected by public transport. There is a train line from Cascais into Lisbon that stops in Estoril\, Parede\, and Paco d’Arcos. There are buses running all throughout the area\, and in Lisbon proper there is a metro line as well. To purchase tickets\, you can either use one of the machines or walk up to the counter. We like to load money onto what is called a «zapping» card\, zapping can be used on train\, metro or bus. Rides on the train\, lift\, metro\, bus or tram cost between 1-2€ each\, usually around 1\,50€. \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/lisbonpopup2023 \nBrowse our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about how our pop-ups work: \nhttps://www.worldschoolpopuphub.com/faqs

SUMMARY:Buenos Aires\, Argentina
DESCRIPTION:Come join us in Buenos Aires\, Argentina\, for a fun-filled week from December 10 – 16\, 2023. \nOur pop-ups provide a super casual\, budget-friendly opportunity to gather together\, connect with other worldschoolers\, share your insights\, instill new friendships\, learn about the local area\, and immerse in a friendly\, accepting mobile community. \nWe’ve cherry-picked the best low- or no-cost activities that highlight local nature\, arts\, history\, food\, and culture….but you’ll also have plenty of time to relax\, get to know each other and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group’s interests (we provide plenty of supplemental ideas to tailor your experience). \nPop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you’d like. It’s up to you! We would love to have you come and simply hang out with like-minded families while we dive in and explore the local offerings. \nOur itinerary will include activities such as the following: \n*Street Art in La Boca\n*Sunday Market in San Telmo\n*Parque Tres de Febrero/Bosques de Palermo\n*Reserva Ecologica Costanera Sur\n*Free Recoleta Walking Tour\n*Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales\n*Participative Science Museum\n*El Ateneo Grand Splendid (largest bookstore in South America\, inside a converted theater)\n*Parque Norte Waterpark\n*Parque de las Ninos\n*Watching Street Performers Dance the Tango \n  \nAdd-on options include: Parque La Costa Amusement Park\, Tigre River Tour\, or Gaucho Day experience! \nCOST per Family: \n$100 Early Bird Rate\, expires Oct 1\, 2023 \n$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need\, use code BA25 at checkout) \n  \nMEET YOUR HOST(s): \nWe are the Coles – a tight-knit trio consisting of parents who crave adventure and an 11-year-old named Sebastian\, who loves video games and waterfall hiking. Since 2019\, we’ve been living life to the fullest as full-time worldschoolers\, without a home base. We’ve loved delving into the culture (and food!) of Latin America as well as SE Asia. Myanmar\, Malaysia\, Mexico\, El Salvador\, and Ecuador have been some of our favorite countries so far! \nCurrently\, we’re driving the Pan American Highway from the US to Ushuaia\, Argentina. It’s been the road trip of a lifetime\, filled with unexpected encounters\, breathtaking vistas\, and some pretty outlandish stories. And guess what? Our next destination is none other than Buenos Aires\, the vibrant capital of Argentina. Buenos Aires is our final South American stop before we ship our car back to Mexico. \nWe’re so excited to immerse ourselves in the pulsating energy of this cosmopolitan city. It’ll be our first time exploring Buenos Aires\, and we can’t wait to connect with other worldschooling families who share our passion for adventure and education. \n  \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nBuenos Aires offers a variety of options that cater to different interests and preferences. Many of our activities will be in Recoleta and Palermo. San Telmo and Microcenter will also have activities. Before booking a place\, be sure to check Google Maps to see how close the nearest subway stop is\, you won’t want to walk 15 blocks to the metro. \nIf trendy restaurants\, vibrant nightlife\, excellent shopping\, and beautiful parks are your main draw\, Palermo is the top pick. For museums and a more upscale cultural experience\, Recoleta is the place to be. If you prefer a central location\, Microcentro (City Center) puts you right in the heart of the action\, although it can be a bit noisy. And for a Bohemian and artistic experience\, San Telmo is an excellent choice. In addition\, any of the areas immediately adjacent to these four neighborhoods are also solid choices. The host family intends to stay in one of these neighborhoods. \nFor safety reasons: avoid La Boca at night as well as the Retiro train station and its surrounding less-developed area. \n  \nTRANSPORT INFO: \nBuenos Aires is a pedestrian-friendly city\, especially in neighborhoods like Palermo and Recoleta. Exploring on foot allows you to soak up the local atmosphere and discover hidden gems along the way. Just be mindful of your surroundings and use caution when crossing busy streets. Buenos Aires also boasts a relatively easy transportation system\, making it convenient for travelers to navigate the city. \nThe city offers an extensive network of buses\, subways\, and trains\, providing affordable and efficient options for getting around. The Subte (subway) is a popular choice for traveling longer distances within the city\, with six lines covering various neighborhoods. Buses\, known as colectivos\, are widely available and can take you to almost any destination in the city. Be sure to have some coins or a Subte card\, which is a reloadable transportation card\, for payment. \nTaxis are abundant in Buenos Aires\, and hailing one is usually not a problem. Look for official taxis with a light on the roof and ask the driver to turn on the meter. Alternatively\, ride-sharing services like Uber and Cabify are also available and provide a convenient and safe way to travel around the city. \nIf you enjoy cycling\, Buenos Aires has a bike-sharing program called Ecobici. You can rent a bike from one of the many stations throughout the city and explore at your own pace. Additionally\, some neighborhoods have bike lanes\, making cycling a pleasant and eco-friendly way to get around. \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, coordinate plans\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, meet the host\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nwww.facebook.com/groups/buenosairespopup2023 \nBrowse our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about how our pop-ups work: https://www.worldschoolpopuphub.com/faqs

My husband and I early retired in 2021\, and we moved from Houston to Spain where we’ve spent the last two years. \nWe are spending October and November in Budapest. We were drawn to this part of Europe because of the history\, architecture\, culture\, nature\, big city activities and experiences\, access to day trips\, and the timing of fall and winter activities (Christmas Markets! Ice Skating!). One of my favorite things to do is guide my family through unique adventures and opportunities (and big cities are my jam)… I would love to share this with other families. We hope to meet you in Budapest in November 2023. \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nDistrict V and District I are close to most of (not all) our plans. District VI and VII will also be convenient.  Google Maps is helpful for looking at the Districts as is this link: https://misstourist.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest-hungary-best-hotels/.  The host family will stay in District V. \nBudapest has a great transportation system so looking to see how far away transportation stops are from housing is helpful. \nIn order to have a safe visit\, it’s important to know the areas in Budapest that aren’t super family-friendly. Keep in mind that Budapest is a popular tourist city\, so wherever you are\, you will have to watch out for pickpocketing and petty theft. Luckily\, there are no real dangerous areas in Budapest. The only part we’d recommend taking a bit of caution is District VIII – especially at night. Also\, Districts VII and IX can be a bit sketchy\, too\, so make sure to keep your eyes open.  From https://www.thebrokebackpacker.com/is-budapest-safe/ \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/budapestpopup2023 \nBrowse our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about how our pop-ups work: \nhttps://www.worldschoolpopuphub.com/faqs

SUMMARY:Kobe\, Japan
DESCRIPTION:Come join us in Kobe\, Japan\, for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering November 7 – 13\, 2023. \nPop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you’d like. It’s up to you! \nOur itinerary will include activities such as the following: \n* Learn about the The Great Hanshin 1995 earthquake at the Port of Kobe Earthquake Memorial Park. See the scope of the damage to appreciate the city’s remarkable recovery.\n*Experience a simulated earthquake and learn about eathquake proofing technology at The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Memorial & Disaster Prevention Center.\n* Kobe Chinatown\, and its sights\, sounds\, smells and tastes. You might never see a cleaner Chinatown anywhere.\n* Let your kids challenge themselves at the obstacle & climbing course in Kobe Suma Rikyu Park.\n* Kobe Motomachi Street\, a lively\, traditional arcade market dating back 140 years.\n* Himeji Castle\, the largest & best-preserved castle in Japan\, dating back to the 1300’s. Himeji Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.\n* Learn how to make sushi rolls or traditional Japanese sweets in a group lesson & party.\n* Visit Kobe Animal Kingdom or Bando Kobe Science Museum on Kobe Port Island\, the largest of Kobe’s man-made islands in Osaka Bay.\n* Eat at an izakaya restaurant\, where each restaurant serves up a variety of small\, delicious Japanese dishes\, generally unique to each establishment.\n* Eat at kaiten sushi\, a rotating conveyor belt sushi restaurant.\n* Sing your heart out in a private echoing karaoke room\, or applaud (or laugh) at the others while enjoying snacks and drinks. \n  \nCOST per Family \nUS$100 Early Bird Rate\, expires Sept 15\, 2023\nUS$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need\, use code KOBE25 at checkout) \n  \nMEET YOUR HOST: \nHello\, my name is Ken and my wife\, Linda\, and I are excited to be your hosts for the Kobe Pop-Up Hub. I experienced and saw first-hand some of the destruction of the 1995 earthquake in Kobe\, from which the city has amazingly recovered. \nLast year I retired early to start worldschooling with our 11-year-old twin daughters. I am from Canada and first got interested in Japan back in 1992 and have visited Japan more than 20 times. In 2018 we moved from Canada to the Tokyo area where we’ve lived for close to 4 years. Linda is native Japanese\, and we are both functionally bilingual in both Japanese and English. You can ask us anything about Japan and we will likely be able to give you the inside story. \nWe like to travel to places to explore new cultures\, food\, adventure activities\, meet new people\, and experience nature. Like you\, we want to give our kids learning opportunities from rich real-world experiences and travel\, rather than from a traditional school setting. Last year we visited Costa Rica\, Mexico\, France\, Italy\, Romania\, UAE\, & Vietnam\, so we also learned some Spanish\, French\, Italian\, and Romanian\, although some of it may already be starting to fade away. Can’t wait to meet you all to introduce you to many of the fascinating things in Tokyo\, Japan\, and make some worldschooling friends for our kids as well. \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nMost of our activities will be in the central ward (Chuo-ku) of Kobe. See the ward map here:  https://www.kobejet.com/en/term/ward#&gid=1&pid=1 \nOne activity will be in Suma-ku slightly to the west. The day trip to Himeji is also west\, 1 hour by train from the center (Sannomiya). If you are slightly to the west of the center it would put you in a better position to travel to Himeji for the day trip. Your hosts will likely be staying in one of the wards to the west. \nBecause of hills and mountains all along the north half of the city\, most of the trains run west-east through the wards bordering the bay from Tarumi-ku in the west to Higashi Nada-ku in the east . There are 2 train/subway lines that run north-south. Although lodging in the central area will be the most convenient\, trains are very efficient. If your lodging is in the west end or the east end (where it will be cheaper)\, even in neighboring Ashiya city\, you are likely only 30 minutes from the center. \nGoogle Maps is reliable to determine the cost and travel time to get to the center.  Check the travel time to Sannomiya station (the center) avoiding the Shinkansen (bullet train) line because that requires reserved\, premium tickets.  Accommodation on the Port Island is also possible but note that the monorail that services the island is slower and more expensive than regular trains. \nHere are some possible accommodations. Most are no-nonsense accommodations\, generally classified as business hotels\, but Airbnbs (if you can find them) will usually be more economical.\nhttps://www.superhoteljapan.com/\nhttps://www.toyoko-inn.com/\nhttps://www.apahotel.com/\nThis tourist map may also be a helpful reference: https://ontheworldmap.com/japan/city/kobe/kobe-tourist-map.html \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, and interact with other potential attendees:\nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/kobepopup2023 \nBrowse our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about how our pop-ups work:\nhttps://www.worldschoolpopuphub.com/faqs

Avoid downtown Omonia at night. Metro-accessible spots in Pagrati\, Exarcheia or Neos Kosmos also work well. \n\nPlaka – This historic neighbourhood at the foot of the Acropolis oozes old-world charm with winding lanes\, neoclassical architecture\, and vibrant cafes and shops. It’s very walkable and tourist-friendly.\nMonastiraki – Adjacent to Plaka\, Monastiraki has a buzzing flea market and lively square. It’s known for antique shops and street art lining the narrow alleyways.\nPsyri – East of Monastiraki\, Psyri is a revitalised artsy neighbourhood with tavernas\, galleries\, and nightlife. It has a grungy\, bohemian vibe.\nKoukaki – South of the Acropolis\, Koukaki is quietly residential with a local feel. It has good dining options and is an easy walk to major sights.\n\nCheck out booking.com\, airbnb or join local facebook groups to find suitable accommodation. \nChoose accommodation nearby metro stops to make your travels around Athen’s easier. \n  \nTransport: \n\nMetro – Athens’ metro system is efficient and inexpensive. It has 3 lines that connect to major landmarks and neighbourhoods. Purchase tickets at machines in stations.\nWalking – Many of Athens’ top sights are concentrated in neighbourhoods like Plaka\, Monastiraki\, and Psyri which are very walkable. Just wear comfortable shoes!\nBus – An extensive bus network connects areas not accessible by metro. Buses run frequently but can get crowded.\nTaxis – Affordable taxis are everywhere in Athens. An average ride within the city centre costs around €5-10.\nRideshares – Prices are comparable to taxis.\n\nBeat – This is the most widely used rideshare app in Athens. Works almost identically to Uber with low rates and quick service. \nUber – Uber operates in Athens as well\, though Beat tends to have more drivers available. Pricing and service are comparable to Beat. \nTaxibeat – Another rideshare app linking riders to regular taxi drivers in Athens. Slightly more expensive than Beat/Uber but still affordable. \nTaxiplon – A taxi e-hailing app working with Athens taxi fleets. Easy to book rides. \nWelcome Pickups – Rideshare service focused on airport transfers and day trips outside Athens. \n\nTram – A new tram line connects the city centre with the coast. It’s handy for beach access.\nBicycle – Athens has dedicated bike lanes but the hilly terrain can be challenging. Bike rentals are available.
