DESCRIPTION:Come join us in Budapest\, Hungary\, for a fun-filled and community-centered worldschooling gathering November 18 – 24\, 2023. \nThe Worldschool Pop-Up Hub provides super casual\, budget-friendly opportunities to gather\, connect with other worldschoolers\, learn about the local area\, instill new friendships\, share your insights\, and immerse in a friendly\, accepting mobile community. Our activities highlight local nature\, history\, food\, and culture… but you’ll also have plenty of time to relax\, get to know each other\, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group’s interests. \nPop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you’d like. It’s up to you! \nOur itinerary will include activities such as the following: \n*City Park\n*Children’s Railway (Gyermekvasút) has several nature walk stops along the way (also in the Guinness Book of World Records)\n*Seasonal Ice Skating\n*Castle Hill Neighborhood – UNESCO World Heritage Site\n*Hungarian Railway Museum – Europe’s Largest Open Air Railway Entertainment Park\n*Central Market Hall Nagy Vásárcsarnok\n*Hungarian Foods like goulash\, langos\, palacsinta\, & chicken paprikash\n*Aquincum – Roman Ruins and Museum – UNESCO World Heritage Site\n*Christmas Markets\n*Walks along the Danube\n*Views from the Towers at Fisherman’s Bastion \nAdd-on options include: a Hungarian dance show\, thermal baths\, a day trip to or an evening cruise in the Danube to see the Parliament/ sites at night (UNESCO area too). \nCOST per Family \nUS$100 Early Bird Rate\, expires Sept 15\, 2023 \nUS$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need\, use code BUDAPEST25 at checkout) \nMEET YOUR HOST: \nI’m Tara\, and I’m traveling with my family of four with two kids (son is currently 12 and daughter is 10). My husband and I early retired in 2021\, and we moved from Houston to Spain where we’ve spent the last two years. \nMy husband worked in accounting while I was an art educator for the previous 11 years (experience from PreK age through to Seniors in HS). Prior to the classroom\, I worked in museum education and advertising. My passions\, interests\, and experience made the leap to worldschooling right up my alley! One of my favorite places in the world (so far) is NYC. I may be biased since I spent most of my 20s in NYC. I love big cities\, but I also love getting out of my comfort zone and experiencing new things (including smaller places like Granada). \nAfter two years of full immersion in Granada\, Spain\, we are now full-time nomadic travelers / worldschoolers. We currently plan to slow travel for two years and then apply for Spanish visas again (which would put our oldest at ESO 3 age or US High School age). But who knows how our plans may evolve as we travel full-time? \nWe are spending October and November in Budapest. We were drawn to this part of Europe because of the history\, architecture\, culture\, nature\, big city activities and experiences\, access to day trips\, and the timing of fall and winter activities (Christmas Markets! Ice Skating!). One of my favorite things to do is guide my family through unique adventures and opportunities (and big cities are my jam)… I would love to share this with other families. We hope to meet you in Budapest in November 2023. \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nDistrict V and District I are close to most of (not all) our plans. District VI and VII will also be convenient.  Google Maps is helpful for looking at the Districts as is this link: https://misstourist.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest-hungary-best-hotels/.  The host family will stay in District V. \nBudapest has a great transportation system so looking to see how far away transportation stops are from housing is helpful. \nIn order to have a safe visit\, it’s important to know the areas in Budapest that aren’t super family-friendly. Keep in mind that Budapest is a popular tourist city\, so wherever you are\, you will have to watch out for pickpocketing and petty theft. Luckily\, there are no real dangerous areas in Budapest. The only part we’d recommend taking a bit of caution is District VIII – especially at night.
