SUMMARY:Osaka\, Japan
DESCRIPTION:Explore Osaka\, Japan during cherry blossom season! We have a fun-filled and community-centered worldschool gathering March 30 – April 5\, 2024. \nOur pop-ups provide a super casual\, budget-friendly opportunity to gather\, connect with other worldschoolers\, learn about the local area\, instill new friendships\, share your insights\, and immerse in a friendly\, accepting mobile community. \nWe’ve cherry-picked the best low- or no-cost activities that highlight local nature\, arts\, history\, food\, and culture… but you’ll also have plenty of time to relax\, get to know each other\, and even stray from the itinerary to add activities that cater to the group’s interests (we provide supplemental ideas to tailor your experience). \nPop in for a few days or the full week. Join as many activities as you’d like. It’s up to you! We would love to have you come and simply hang out with like-minded families while we dive in and explore the local offerings. \nOur itinerary will include activities such as the following: \n*Osaka Walking Tour \n*Osaka Castle \n*Tennoji Park & Zoo \n*Ooedo Minoh traditional onsen baths and waterfall hike \n*Todaiji Daibutsuden historic Buddhist temple \n*Tsutenkaku Tower observation deck \n*Street food & markets \n*Tempozan’s 112 meter tall Ferris wheel \n*Big Bang Sakai Children’s Museum and 53m Jungle Gym \n*Osaka Science Museum \nAdd on options include Bampaku Beast amusement park\, World Fair Park\, Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan\, Lego Land\, or a day trip to Hiroshima or Kyoto! \nCOST per Family \nUS$100 Early Bird Rate\, expires January 15\, 2024 \nUS$140 Regular Rates (a $25 discount is available for families in need\, use code OSAKA25 at checkout) \nMEET YOUR HOST: \nI’m Tara\, and I’m traveling with my family of four with two kids (son will be 13 and daughter is 11).  My husband and I early retired in 2021\, and we moved from Houston to Spain where we’ve spent the last two years until the end of June 2023. \nMy husband worked in accounting while I was an art educator for the previous 11 years (experience from PreK age through to Seniors in HS). Prior to the classroom\, I worked in museum education and advertising. My passions\, interests\, and experience made the leap to worldschooling right up my alley! One of my favorite places in the world (so far) is NYC. I may be biased since I spent most of my 20s in NYC. I love big cities\, but I also love getting out of my comfort zone and experiencing new things (including smaller places like Granada). \nAfter two years of full immersion in Granada\, Spain\, we are now full-time nomadic travelers / worldschoolers. We currently plan to slow travel for two years and then apply for Spanish visas again (which would put our oldest at ESO 3 age or US High School age). But who knows how our plans may evolve as we travel full-time? \nWe are spending March and April in Japan (with 6 weeks in Osaka).  We chose Osaka because of Cherry Blossom Season\, endless attractions and activities\, and it also offers easy access to Kyoto.  One of my favorite things to do is guide my family through unique adventures and opportunities (and big cities are my jam)… I would love to share this with other families.  We hosted our first Worldschool Pop-Up in Budapest in November 2023\, and we had a blast.  We hope to meet you in Osaka at the end of March / early April 2024. \nLODGING & NEIGHBORHOODS: \nOsaka is a large but safe city. If you use your common sense there are no truly dangerous areas to avoid. However\, our activities are grouped by areas accessible via public transport. \nOur host recommends the following three neighborhoods serviced by the Midosuji subway line: \n(1) Kita Ward (North 北): Around Osaka and Umeda stations. \n(2) Minami (South 南): Around Namba Station. \n(3) Tennoji/Abeno: Around Tennoji and Abeno stations. These are centralized neighborhoods with good transportation access. \nThe host has a rental near Yodogawa Ward. \nTRANSPORT CONSIDERATIONS: \nTransport info here: https://www.osaka.com/info/osaka-metro/ \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION: \nJoin the private Facebook group to ask questions\, stay up to date on activities in the area\, meet the host\, and interact with other potential attendees: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/osakapopup2024
